Mindfulness Meditation Course

The Mindfulness Program in the Stanford Center for Integrative Medicine Clinic is designed to teach mind and body awareness techniques for coping with physical or psychological symptoms from stress and stress-related illnesses. By learning relaxation and awareness techniques, including mindful yoga and body movement, participants are taught to use their inner resources to relieve stress and manage pain more effectively. The Mindfulness Program was initiated 20 years ago at the University of Massachusetts by John Kabat-Zinn, PhD, who was featured on Bill Moyer's PBS series and book, Healing and the Mind.

Fee and schedule

The Mindfulness Meditation program consists of eight weekly sessions and one all-day Saturday class. Come join in this healthful way to relieve stress. The following are included in the fee:

  • An audiotape or CD
  • Syllabus
  • Special one-day retreat for participants

Pre-registration is required. The registration fee is $330. The full program fee must be paid prior to the first day of class. The easiest way is to call us with your credit card information. Cancellations made up to the day the course begins will be refunded. No refunds given after the course begins. You will receive a confirmation prior to the class.

About the Instructor

The instructor, Mark Abramson, DDS, is the founder and facilitator of Mindfulness-Meditation Based Stress Reduction programs at Stanford Health Care and Stanford University School of Medicine. He trained with John Kabat-Zinn and has conducted these classes several times a year for twelve years.

He has practiced dentistry in the Bay Area for more than twenty-five years, specializing in the treatment of chronic pain and temporomandibular disorders, focussing on non-drug oriented care integrating traditional dental approaches with mind/body techniques, osteopathic manual medicine, and acupuncture. He has been an instructor at the College of Osteopathic Medicine in Pomona since 1985, has lectured throughout the country on TMJ/orofacial pain, and leads retreats on mindfulness meditation. Dr. Abramson holds a black belt in Aikido.

He also teaches a quarterly class on Love Yourself: For Everyone Else's Sake.
