Mark Welton, MD, begins tenure as Chief of Staff
Mark Welton, the Harry A. Oberhelman Jr, Professor and Chief of Colon and Rectal Surgery, began his tenure as SHC's new Chief of Staff on May 1. Welton, who joined the medical staff in September 2001 as a fulltime member in the Stanford University School of Medicine, served as Vice Chief from 2011-14. Welton received his MD and completed his surgical residency at UCLA before completing a fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at Washington University. He returned to school in 2007 to obtain a Masters in Health Care Management from Harvard. Read his full bio here. Edward Damrose, MD, FACS, also took over on May 1 as Vice Chief of Staff. Damrose, an Associate Professor and Chief, Division of Laryngeal Surgery, graduated from Yale in 1991 cum laude. He attended the UCLA School of Medicine, earning his MD in 1995 and completing a thesis in the field of head and neck surgery. Read Damrose's profile here.

This month's newsletter takes a comprehensive look at the programs of the Office of Medical Student Wellness, lists many events/classes of interest including the Stanford Powwow Fun Run, Relay for Life, Cardinal Walk, Bike to Work Day, talks on medical volunteerism abroad, a panel on Women Surgeons Raising Families, a campus health report card, and research on the benefits of chocolate. Planned Power Shutdown This Saturday, May 3; SHC Cafeteria Closed During Shutdown (PDF)
A planned power shutdown is scheduled to occur this Saturday, May 3, from 6am to 10pm. The shutdown will occur on all floors of Stanford Hospital's Central Core building at 300 Pasteur Drive. During this time, normal power will be suspended and emergency power will be utilized. In addition, the SHC Cafeteria will be closed and alternative dining options will be available including the LPCH Cafeteria and food trucks at the Fountain Entrance. Two additional shutdowns are scheduled for Saturday, May 17 and Saturday, May 31. Details will be shared on these shortly.
