New Best Practice Alert (BPA) to Increase Appropriate Plasma/FFP Transfusion (PDF)
Soon, a new best practice alert (BPA) will appear in Epic if plasma/FFP is ordered with a recent INR <=1.7. Transfusion of plasma is neither necessary nor effective for reducing minimally elevated INR prior to procedure or as a prophylaxis against bleeding. This is an important, multi-departmental initiative to increase adherence to evidence based medicine and reduce unnecessary side effects and surgical delays.
What's New and Coming Soon in Epic
Starting 9/11: Health maintenance alerts suppressed for terminally ill patients.
Starting 10/6: The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) has changed hydrocodone combination products (HCPs) from Schedule III to the more-restrictive Schedule II. This change goes into effect on 10/6/14. More information to come later this month.
