School of Medicine Increases Faculty Size and Extends PI Privileges to Clinician Educators
To keep pace with Stanford's burgeoning clinical operations, Stanford School of Medicine anticipates gradually increasing the size of its faculty over the next five years, and expanding research opportunities for clinician educators. The move is part of a larger effort to foster growth in clinical research and advancement in clinical care.
New Center Focuses on Sex Disparities in Medicine
It's no secret that medical research on women’s health has lagged behind that done on men. A new collaborative effort at Stanford, the Stanford WSDM Center (pronounced "wisdom"), hopes to tackle the continuing disparities in medicine between men and women and across the gender spectrum, and encourage scientists and clinicians to consider sex and gender when designing studies and providing patient care.
Laser Brings Advanced Precision and Faster Healing to Cataract Surgery
Each year, three million Americans have their cataracts removed by the skilled hands of ophthalmic surgeons. But using laser technology, surgeons at the Byers Eye Institute at Stanford now can remove cataracts with more precision and more safety, offering patients less discomfort and faster healing.
