A Pancreas Primer

Symptoms of a pancreas in trouble can include:

  • abdominal pain that radiates to the back or chest
  • nausea, vomiting, rapid pulse rate, fever
  • unexplained weight loss
  • jaundice

Tests to diagnose pancreatic conditions may include an abdominal ultrasound, a computerized tomography (CT) scan, an endoscopic ultrasound, magnetic resonance(MRCP) and the measurement of amount and concentration of pancreatic juice.

Treatment may include therapeutic endoscopy procedures, advanced surgical techniques, nutritional counseling, pain management and the opportunity to participate in clinical research trials.
