Reconstructive Surgery After Colon Tumor Removal 

Removing a large tumor from the colon can be an essential part of successful treatment for colon cancer. That surgery may also leave an empty space large enough to require the support for the organs and tissue that remain.

Stanford’s plastic surgeons are expert in using muscles, tissue and blood vessels from nearby areas of the body to reconstruct support. Such surgeries are complex and require collaboration between the tumor surgeons and the plastic surgeons for the best result. In this video, Stanford surgeon Rahim Nazerali explains the three methods he uses to build new support systems using muscles from the gluteus maximus muscle, the gracilis muscle or abdominal muscles.
