Stanford Health Care Appoints New Chair of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery
Stanford Health Care is pleased to welcome Konstantina Stankovic, MD, PhD, as chair of the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. She most recently served as chief of the Division of Otology and Neurotology at Massachusetts Eye and Ear at Harvard University.
In addition to her leadership background, Dr. Stankovic is a prominent clinician in her field. She is a fellow of the American Otological Society and of the American College of Surgeons. She is also former president of the American Auditory Society.
Collaborating for the Highest Quality Care
One of Dr. Stankovic’s goals is to forge new collaborations with other specialties—both within Stanford Health Care and across the globe. She plans to use these collaborations to expand upon the department’s goal to cure and prevent hearing loss and other sensory and communicative disorders. These multidisciplinary teams will combine their expertise and perspectives, ultimately bringing the best possible care to patients.
Continuing a Tradition of Leading-Edge Research
Dr. Stankovic’s experience and skill as a respected researcher and clinician will bring an edge to our established research program. She previously directed the Stankovic Molecular Neurotology and Biotechnology Laboratory at Harvard—part of the world's largest research center for the study of hearing and deafness.
Dr. Stankovic has led studies investigating optical imaging of cells inside the inner ear. She also has participated in research to develop a chip that enables a fully implantable cochlear implant.
The Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery has previously enjoyed 18 years of solid leadership from Robert Jackler, MD. Dr. Jackler is now focusing his time on a research sabbatical.
