The Stanford Cancer Institute is a collaborative Stanford Medicine enterprise made up of Stanford Health Care, Stanford University School of Medicine and Stanford Children's Health. Top-rated programs in more than 30 biomedical specialties—including cancer biology, genomics, immunotherapy, bioinformatics, stem cell medicine and bioengineering—are delivering insights that have changed how cancer is diagnosed, treated and prevented.
Who We Are
The Institute unites scientists focused on understanding how cancer develops with specialists dedicated to providing expert treatment and personal attention for each individual.
These collaborative partnerships mean that scientific findings are rapidly translated into comprehensive, streamlined care at the Stanford Cancer Center and at the Bass Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Diseases.
Stanford Cancer Institute is one of the few NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the United States. This designation recognizes the Institute's scientific rigor across its laboratory research and clinical assessments of treatments.
Basic Research to Clinical Trials
The Stanford Cancer Institute builds on Stanford's long tradition of creative research and entrepreneurship to bridge the gap between discovery and its application into important new clinical therapies.
Focused on bench-to-bedside translational medicine, the Institute's work has already led to extraordinary clinical applications for tens of thousands of patients throughout the country and around the world.

Clinical trials are used to evaluate new and better ways to diagnose, treat and manage symptoms of cancer. Participating in a trial may give you access to experimental treatments that otherwise are not available. |
Stanford has been able to contribute so much and has so much potential for contributing even more because we look at problems from a new perspective. That is so important in advancing science and advancing clinical care.
Transforming Cancer Care
The Transforming Cancer Care Initiative is a comprehensive and unprecedented effort to put the best cancer science to work for patients and deliver a new, coordinated model of care built around each person's unique medical, social and emotional needs.
The goal is to be the best place to give and receive safe, quality, compassionate care while providing the highest standard of personal service designed to make patients, families and friends as comfortable as possible, so that patients can focus on getting well.
