- Video visits are a good option for: acid reflux, fever, pre-travel consultation, allergies, flu, rash, birth control counseling, follow-up visit, sinusitis, chronic disease management, headache/migraine, sore throat, cough, pink eye, urinary problems, diarrhea
- Schedule an in-person appointment or seek emergency care for: conditions that require a physical exam, chest pain, shortness of breath, abdominal pain, sprains/broken bones, suicidal ideation, self-harm, eating disorders
Step 1: Schedule a Video Visit
There are 3 ways to schedule a video visit
- Video visits are conducted via the Stanford Health Care MyHealth app, available on iOS or Android. Many specialties- including Primary Care and Express Care- offer video visits. To see if your provider or clinic offers video visits and to schedule a video visit appointment, simply:
- Log into your MyHealth account on your mobile device
- Select “Appointments” > “Make Appointment” and follow the instructions
- When you get to “type of visit”, select “video visits” from the drop-down menu
- New to MyHealth and need an account? Create a New Account »
- Call 650-498-3333 and we can connect you to the appropriate clinic to continue with scheduling
- You can also contact your provider or clinic directly or ask the clinic staff during your next visit
Step 2: Conduct a Video Visit
What to expect
Once your video visit is scheduled, you’ll receive a confirmation email in your MyHealth inbox with your appointment information and simple instructions for how to connect to your video visit. On your appointment day, be sure to:
- Log in to the Stanford Health Care MyHealth app. Click on "Appointments" and then click on your video visit from the list of Upcoming Appointments. Click on "Start Video Visit" and wait for your care team member to join.
- Make sure you are located in California: Current licensure requirements mean doctors must see patients in states where they have an active license. As a result, we can only provide video visits to patients located in California.
- Simply connect from wherever you are using your mobile device. While any place with a fast internet connection will work, we recommend that you have your video visit in a place that is private enough for you to comfortably discuss your health questions with your care team.
Video visits are not appropriate for emergency situations. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 right away.
