Preceptor Development Workshop
A preceptor functions as a teacher, advocate, and role model in guiding, directing and overseeing the clinical practice of the preceptee.
During this 1 day interactive workshop, the Professional Practice model will serve as an overarching framework for discussion topics that include:
- adult learning theories
- leadership styles
- teaching strategies
- communication and feedback strategies
- socialization and transition for a successful preceptor/preceptee relationship
Program Objectives:
- Recognize the roles and responsibilities of a preceptor.
- Describe the process to assess and meet the preceptee’s learning needs.
- Discuss techniques to promote constructive communication between the new staff member and the preceptor.
- Demonstrate clinical teaching strategies to use with preceptees.
- Distinguish how to provide effective and constructive feedback on performance.
- Compare the effectiveness of two different learning theories in adult learners.
- Identify strategies to support the preceptee in the socialization process.
- Explain the possible impact of personality type on the preceptor/preceptee relationship.
- Discuss human resource and legal issues associated with precepting.
