Patient Safety: SHC is Rising Star in Quality

A team from Stanford Health Care accepts the Vizient Rising Star Award for Stanford’s dramatic improvement in its Vizient quality ranking.

Stanford’s Vizient ranking improved from number 71 in Fiscal Year 2017 to number 12 in 2018. Leaders from Stanford Health Care (SHC) attended the Vizient Summit in Las Vegas in October 2018, where SHC was recognized for its significant achievement in improving its overall quality rankings. Some of the factors influencing the Vizient Rising Star award included:

  • In the Efficiency Domain: The SHC Length of Stay Index decreased from 1.01 in FY 2017 to 0.89 in FY 2018, ranking 10th out of approximately 99 Comprehensive Academic Medical Centers in Vizient.
  • In the Safety Domain: Among many improvements, there was a 61 percent decrease in Central Line Associated Blood Stream Infections in FY 2018 as compared to FY 2017.​
  • In the Mortality Domain: The SHC Mortality Index improved by 25 percent in FY 18, ranking 19th out of approximately 99 Comprehensive Academic Medical Centers in Vizient.
