Stanford Health Care – ValleyCare COVID-19 Vaccine Media Kit
Press Release
With guidance from faculty experts, Stanford Medicine prepares to deploy COVID-19 vaccine
December 16, 2020
Stanford Medicine is ready to inoculate health care workers against COVID-19 with the first vaccine authorized for emergency use in the United States.
Stanford Health Care – ValleyCare will receive 975 doses of the Pfizer vaccine sometime this week, which we will begin administering to high-risk health care workers on December 18.
Our health care worker vaccinations began on December 18th.
We are committed to protecting our essential workforce, ensuring their safety and wellness, and reducing community transmission. We have developed a thorough and thoughtful approach to distribute the vaccine in the coming months, which has involved close coordination across and among clinical and operations teams throughout all Stanford Medicine entities; anticipation of implications to clinical and operational workflows; and consideration of the potential temporary side effects of the vaccine.
We will be scheduling/providing appointments for our health care workers who accept the vaccine. This includes the 1st vaccine does as well as an appointment for the 2nd dose.
We have been working closely with the Alameda County Public Health Department.
We are working in close collaboration with our Inclusion, Diversity & Health Equity team to ensure that we engage all members or our workforce, with consideration of health risk.
Rick Shumway, MHA President and CEO, Stanford Health Care – ValleyCare
“The significance of this day is pretty impactful. It has been a really challenging year for all of us. We’ve gone through lots of challenges - both personally and professionally. To me, what this day signals, is a significant step forward in being able to take even better care of our staff, patients, families and community. I’m so excited for the opportunity our staff, our teams, and our physicians will have - to have that piece of mind and allow them to do their jobs in a safer and more effective way.”
