Pulmonary Rehabilitation is a six-week program consisting of exercise, education and support for people with documented lung disease. Goals of the program include:

Education
To help you maximize your rehabilitation program, we encourage loved ones and caregivers to attend classes with you. In a series of interactive classes, our team covers topics such as:
- Controlling shortness of breath, exercising safely, and conserving energy
- Taking medications, using inhalers, and watching for complications
- Learning the best breathing exercises for COPD
- Improving nutrition and maintaining a healthy weight
- Managing stress and coping with setbacks
- Traveling and adjusting to different altitudes
- Avoiding lung infections and hospitalizations
Physical Therapy and Exercise
Our team works with you to develop a safe, customized program that may combine aerobic exercise and strength training. We’ll help you set and reach goals. Your exercise plan includes:
- Tailored activities that increase your lung capacity and improve overall fitness
- Breathing exercises to help you strengthen muscles for inhaling and exhaling
- Instructions for monitoring your blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen saturation
- Details about at-home exercises so you can continue activities on your own
Respiratory Therapy
Your team includes physical therapists and respiratory specialists from rehabilitation services who are specially trained to help people with lung conditions. Your respiratory therapist may:
- Provide hands-on techniques to loosen mucus that has built up in your lungs (percussion therapy)
- Teach you how to cough or “huff” to bring up mucus
- Show you other ways to clear your airways safely and effectively

Videos and Resources
Our six-week pulmonary rehabilitation program begins every other month throughout the year. As part of our commitment to continued care, we’re always available to provide education and support.
Convenient care where you live and work
- Insurance and billing: We accept most insurance plans. Please check with your help plan to confirm coverage.
- MyHealth: Our MyHealth system allows you to access your records and view test results through a secure, online portal and device app. You can also communicate with your doctors.
- Patient resources: Before beginning our program, please contact your primary care doctor to schedule a pulmonary function test and exercise stress test. If you have questions about these tests, please ask a member of your care team.
