My doctor gave me a written hand out as well a verbal explanation. Even though I had this procedure done with a different institution, I had never gotten such a thorough explanation. I really appreciated my doctor explaining some of these points with me, as simple as they were, it was helpful for me to understand. I'm sure it gets tedious to go over simple instructions with patients, but from the patient's perspective, it displays caring, respect, & an individualization of care that makes one feel more than just a number. Dr. Susan Garay and Dr. JoEllen VanZander both provided excellent care during my recent emergency visit for a severe allergic reaction to amoxicillin. Dr. Garay immediately made time to see me even though her schedule was completely full that day, and Dr. VanZander also saw me immediately afterwards though I had no appointment. The medicine prescribed was extremely effective, and most of the symptoms were almost gone by the next day. Melissa (Dr. Garay's nurse) also called the next day to follow up on the remaining symptom. I'm deeply grateful for and extremely impressed by the care that I received, and will recommend them to friends and family. Please forward my comments to Dr. Garay, Dr. VanZander, and Melissa.

Dr. VanZander knows that I "speak medical", and she can speak with me as if to a peer. I was there to seek better control of the psoriasis on my scalp, to assess whether phototherapy might work on my scalp, and if there were another topical solution (both meanings) to my flareup. Because I'm an informed patient who does her own research, I'm able to speak on her level, and she to me, at that level, and I really appreciate it. I learned this time that my sebaceous cysts will not turn into basal cell carcinoma, which has been a worry of mine. She had a chart that clearly showed the difference in pathological behaviour, and allowed me to understand instantly, once I saw it. I really appreciate the quality of information I get from Dr. VanZander and her staff.
