Music Program

Music has the power to uplift, invigorate, calm, ease, and reduce pain perception. The Music Program at Stanford Hospital provides music to patients and visitors through live concerts, ambient music on the units, and musician bedside visits. All music offerings are free of charge.

Medical Benefits of Music

Music is used in all cultures to uplift and invigorate, as well as calm and ease. Studies have shown music in a medical setting to be a contributing factor in reducing pain perception, improved blood pressure and respiration, easing the side effects of chemotherapy, increase relaxation, and improved mood.

The power of music to integrate and cure is quite fundamental. It is the most profound non-chemical medication.
