Whether you are just beginning your journey in research or an expert principal investigator, there are great educational courses available throughout Stanford Medicine to improve your research knowledge. The Office of Research also offers free video Modules to improve research literacy.
Spectrum
The Stanford Center for Clinical and Translational Research and Education
Spectrum Education provides learning and development opportunities to Stanford faculty, staff, students, and scholars in all areas of clinical and transnational research. Our mission is to support clinical research through grant funding, certificate programs, workshops, one-on-one mentorship, and seminars that allow our workforce as well as our faculty and researchers to update their skills, increase their knowledge base, and gain valuable experience at no cost. A SUNet ID is required to register for these classes.

Lane Medical Library
Each quarter, Lane Medical Library offers a suite of regularly scheduled classes which include navigating PubMed, citation management solutions, and best practices for searching the biomedical literature. Stanford Center for Education & Professional Development
CEPD’s mission is to create an environment that promotes excellence in patient care by providing state-of-art professional development programs for the healthcare community. CEPD offers a wide range of courses to support the growth and interests of the health care professional. All are welcome to register. Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI Program)
The Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI Program) develops and manages high quality and web-based educational courses in a multitude of research topics including research, research administration, ethics, regulatory oversight, and responsible conduct of research. Stanford RITE Program
Call for Nurses’ Participation in the RITE Program
The Office of Research, Patient Care Services (ORPCS) sponsors a selection of bedside non-exempt nurses to participate in Stanford Medicine’s RITE Program at the request of the RITE Program Leadership. Availability is based on the approved project each cohort and the team needs. Please contact the Office of Research if you have questions at Research@stanfordhealthcare.org about sponsorship. Qualifications for Support from the ORPCS
- Must have > 2 years of bedside clinician experience
- Worked at Stanford Health Care > 1 year
- At least one year of experience on current unit
- Employed between 0.5 FTE to 0.9 FTE as a clinical nurse
- Non-exempt employee status
- Must have management support and clearance to participate
- Time commitment varies, but it is expected that at least 30+ hours of project time in addition to class time will be needed outside of work hours for 5 months.
- Participants will be paid at their base hourly rate not exceeding 40 hours per week.
- Participants will gain practical knowledge in quality improvement and project management, and participate in an approved enterprise-wide QI project.
***Disclosure***
This application is to develop a pool of candidates from inpatient or outpatient nursing for upcoming cohorts of the RITE program. Selection is solely driven by the project needs and NOT on individual merit. For example, if a RITE project requests a bedside nurse from B2 to be part of their project; we will access the available pool of applicants and identify the applications of nurses who work on B2. There may not be a project for expertise/unit in every cohort.
What is the RITE Program?
- Realizing Improvement through Team Empowerment (RITE)
- An interdisciplinary team and project-based training program focused on achieving meaningful quality improvement initiatives
- Encompasses a 5-month program with instructor led sessions every other week
- Participants will gain practical knowledge in quality improvement, project management, and participate in an approved enterprise-wide QI project
Program Details
Flipped classroom style. Participants watch 3-5 ten minute video tutorials to prepare for each course session. Sessions are used for discussion and application. 2 hour sessions occur every 2 weeks. Tailored for front line improvement teams. More focused for front line teams. 20 hours of classroom time.

RITE Supporting Mission
To provide the environment, tools, and knowledge needed to realize improvement through front line team empowerment:
- Provide practical education in improvement methodologies and tools.

Program Logistics
Call for applications go out February and August each year (2 cohorts per year). Notice of accepted/declined RITE program applications are sent out in March and September. Nurses will be notified if they are selected for a project and sponsorship by the end of March and September. Visit Stanford Medicine for more information.
