Driven with Stanford Health Care’s commitment to patient centered care, the Professional Practice & Clinical Improvement nursing quality team is actively involved in safety and quality improvement initiatives focused on measuring and improving patient outcomes across the organization. The team prioritizes quality improvement initiatives based on the positive impact the plan will have for patients and their families. In addition to meeting internal goals based on rigorous monitoring and reporting and strictly adhering to regulatory laws that influence improvement priorities, the team also initiates quality improvement programs to meet external goals, including the Joint Commission's National Patient Safety Goals and Magnet accreditation standards. The Quality Team consists of nurses with advanced skills in quality and performance improvement who conduct data analysis that drives the coordination and facilitation of our improvement activities.

Nursing Quality Awarded the ISP Star Award 2019
In May 2019, the Stanford Health Care Nursing Quality team were awarded the Integrated Strategic Planning (ISP) Star Award during the Stanford Medicine Integrated Strategic Planning Retreat celebrated across the enterprise. The award was granted in recognition of excellence demonstrated through Stanford’s three strategic initiatives: value focused, digitally driven, and uniquely Stanford. The Nursing Quality team were recognized for the consistent effort and oversight in the development and re-design of Epic nursing documentation, as well as documentation features that help support clinical decision making, improve usability and capture data for improvement efforts.
Additionally, the team provides support to front-line nurses in analyzing and visualizing clinical and performance data. This data was disseminated to clinical nurses through Shared Leadership Council, nursing educators, and nurse managers, as well as other leaders across the organization, for use in both performance and practice improvement. The team was also recognized for their role in serving as a connector to vital resources for nursing and ensuring that performance improvement efforts were aligned with Stanford Health Care’s strategic priorities.

The award was presented to the team for their motivational leadership and collaboration across multiple interprofessional teams to improve both clinical performance and practice enhancement projects. These improvement efforts helped establish standards of consistent evidence-based nursing care, while allowing for personalized patient care based on individualized needs and clinical judgment. The Integrated Strategic Plan (ISP) Star Award Program was developed in 2019 to recognize individuals and teams from across the Stanford Medicine Community to those who demonstrate extraordinary efforts, embody the strategic priorities of the ISP and have saved and improved countless lives.
