Located at Stanford Health Care – ValleyCare in Pleasanton, we offer two weight loss programs to help you achieve your desired outcome. These programs, Medical Weight Loss and Bariatric Surgery, are designed to help you improve your quality of life using diet and behavior modification and/or surgical intervention for weight reduction. Our team will work with you to determine the best program to meet your needs.

Medical Weight Loss
Unlike other weight loss programs, the Stanford Health Care – ValleyCare Medical Weight Loss Program is not self-directed; instead, a physician or nurse practitioner oversees all aspects of your plan. The care team includes medical and nutrition experts who work together to create a holistic approach, thereby leading to better patient outcomes.
Anyone with a BMI of 30 or over can benefit from a weight loss program. You may also be a candidate if you experience weight-related complications such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure or sleep apnea.
Our Medical Weight Loss Program uses diet and lifestyle changes, exercise, education, behavior modification and medical monitoring for weight reduction. Medication may also be considered to aid in weight reduction.
Bariatric Surgery
Candidates for bariatric surgery are individuals who have a BMI of >40 (or >35 with weight-related health issues), are at least 100 lbs over ideal body weight (or about 70 lbs overweight, if significant health problems exist), and who have taken a significant effort at weight reduction without lasting success.
Options for bariatric surgery at ValleyCare include: Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass, Laparoscopic and Sleeve Gastrectomy, Laparoscopic Gastric Banding, and Revisional Surgery.
Getting Started
If you are considering obesity treatment, learn more by attending our free information seminar. At this seminar, you will have an opportunity to learn more about medical weight loss and surgical options.
If you decide to pursue weight loss at ValleyCare, a medical evaluation will be scheduled to get you started. Prior to your appointment, please print and complete the Patient History Questionnaire Form and bring it with you to our office.
