Care and Treatment of Retinal and Macular Diseases
About Retinal and Macular Diseases
Vitreoretinal and macular diseases, if undiagnosed and untreated, can result in irreversible vision loss and blindness. Fortunately, seminal sight-saving advances have occurred over the past 20 years, partly through efforts at Stanford, that have dramatically improved the prognosis for return and preservation of vision.
These diseases include wet and dry age related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular occlusive diseases, and other age and myopia related diseases of the macula, which can be detected by regular eye examinations by expert ophthalmologists and optometrists at the Byers Eye Institute. Patients are referred to our macular and vitreoretinal specialists for advanced diagnostic imaging studies and laboratory tests with the most modern instrumentation. Leading edge telemedicine techniques are also available to expand the reach of physicians to patients with in home and out of office testing when appropriate.
