What is Hyperaldosteronism?

The hormone aldosterone is produced in the adrenal glands and is essential to blood pressure control and electrolyte balance. Abnormal growth of the adrenals glands or small nodules within one or both adrenal glands can lead to hypertension, and in some cases, may also be associated with low levels of blood potassium (hypokalemia). Specific anti-hypertensive medications or surgery are recommended to treat this condition.
