Peripheral Neuropathy Treatment
Peripheral Neuropathy Treatment at Stanford
At Stanford, we take a comprehensive approach to treating peripheral neuropathy. We create a personalized treatment plan to address the underlying cause and control the symptoms of peripheral neuropathy.
The Stanford Neuromuscular Program team collaborates closely with other specialists to bring you just the care you need. Your care team may include neurologists, physical therapists, surgeons and others.
Treatment for peripheral neuropathy of any cause may include:
- Medications to relieve nerve pain
- Treatment of the underlying cause of neuropathy, such as immunological treatment for autoimmune neuropathy
- Physical therapy to improve muscle strength and flexibility
- Occupational therapy to optimize use of your hands and arms
- Surgery in cases where neuropathy is caused by chronic pressure on a nerve, such as in carpal tunnel syndrome
Peripheral Neuropathy Clinical Trials
Stanford investigators regularly participate in research studies to increase their understanding of conditions that may cause peripheral neuropathy and to investigate new treatment approaches.
Clinical Trials
Clinical trials are research studies that evaluate a new medical approach, device, drug, or other treatment. As a Stanford Health Care patient, you may have access to the latest, advanced clinical trials.
Open trials refer to studies currently accepting participants. Closed trials are not currently enrolling, but may open in the future.
