Prevention
Although some breast cancer risk factors are not preventable, you can take many other precautions to protect yourself from breast cancer.
- Avoid smoking, especially before menopause.
- Breast-feed your child, if you are able.
- Drink less than one drink per day.
- Eat a diet that can help reduce your risk of breast cancer, such as a plant-based diet. Learn more about nutrition and breast cancer.
- Limit your radiation exposure, including X-ray tests and sun exposure.
- Maintain a healthy weight, especially after menopause.
- Stay physically active and exercise regularly.
