What Are the Symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome?
The most common irritable bowel symptoms are:
- Abdominal pain or discomfort, including cramping
- Changes in your bowel habit: either frequency or consistency of your stool or both
Other IBS symptoms may include:
- Abdominal bloating
- Constipation
- Diarrhea
- Feeling full after eating small amounts of food (postprandial fullness)
- Feeling of incomplete bowel emptying
- Gas (flatulence)
- Urgent need to go to the bathroom that may or may not result in a bowel movement
Only a small number of people with IBS experience severe symptoms.
