Dry Eye Symptoms
Dry Eye Symptoms
Symptoms of dry eyes include:
- Watery eyes, as the glands that make the liquid part of tears try to compensate for the lack of lubrication with ramped up production (much like crying, this overwhelms the natural drainage system)
- Stinging or burning
- Irritation
- Itchiness
- Redness (blood-shot eyes)
- Stringy mucus in or around the eyes
- Discomfort from contact lenses
Dry eye is also tied to inflammation, or uveitis, though there is debate about which is the cause and which is the effect.
A number of different medical conditions and eye problems can cause similar symptoms. Please see one of our eye doctors for an accurate diagnosis.
