Urinary Incontinence Causes
What Causes Urinary Incontinence?
Incontinence is not an inevitable result of aging, but is particularly common in older people. It is often caused by specific changes in body function that may result from:
- Diseases
- Use of medications
- Onset of an illness
- Sometimes, UI is the first and only symptom of a urinary tract infection.
Urinary Incontinence and Women
Women are most likely to develop incontinence because of weakened pelvic muscles, especially:
- During pregnancy and childbirth
- After the hormonal changes of menopause
Clinical Trials
Clinical trials are research studies that evaluate a new medical approach, device, drug, or other treatment. As a Stanford Health Care patient, you may have access to the latest, advanced clinical trials.
Open trials refer to studies currently accepting participants. Closed trials are not currently enrolling, but may open in the future.
