Skin Tone
What Is Uneven Skin Tone?
Skin sometimes takes on an uneven tone, leaving patches or spots with a different color or shade. There are several reasons for this, though most of the time it’s a medically harmless condition.
Still, you may want to get the patched checked out, or you may want to remove them because they make you feel self-conscious. If so, we offer thorough consultations and safe and effective treatments to achieve the results you want.
Uneven skin tone symptoms
You likely have an uneven tone if you have spots or patches of skin with a different color or shade.
Uneven skin color causes
Uneven skin color has several possible causes:
- Skin spots: These occur from sun damage and include brown and red spots. (Learn more about skin spots.)
- Hyperpigmentation: When you're injured, the cells (melanocytes) that create pigment (melanin) may go into overdrive to repair the problem, leaving extra color in that particular area.
- Hypopigmentation: The body also creates inflammation to help heal injuries, which may damage some melanocytes and result in lower pigment production for that section of skin. One cause of discoloration is melasma, a type of brown skin spot. (Learn more about skin spots, including melasma.)
