Wrinkles
What Are Wrinkles?
Wrinkles are lines and creases that appear on your skin over time.
While wrinkles are a normal part of aging, we understand that they might bother you. A younger appearance is within reach — you have more options than ever before to make them less noticeable or smooth them out completely.
Wrinkle symptoms
Signs of wrinkles include:
- Lines and creases forming on your skin
- Deeper crevices and furrows developing around your eyes (crow’s feet), mouth and neck
- Features like scars becoming more noticeable
Wrinkle causes
Wrinkles are caused by aging, though some people seem to have genes that temper or slow the process. As we get older, several changes take place to the skin that contributes to wrinkling:
- Less oil production makes it drier
- It becomes less elastic and more fragile, with grooves forming from repeated facial expressions, laughter, frowning (frown lines), concentrating and squinting
- Helpful facial fat from youth disappears (learn more about facial volume loss)
Wrinkling is hastened by:
- Unprotected sun exposure, especially if you're fair-skinned
- Smoking
- Stress
