After Deep Brain Stimulation
After Surgery
You will return to the neurology clinic about one month after surgery to begin your DBS programming visits. During this visit, your neurologist will evaluate you and program the deep brain stimulator. We monitor your movements to help determine the correct settings and intensity for the stimulator. You will have a one-hour break between two monitoring and adjustment sessions.
You will see your team again one month after this appointment. Then, every three months for the first year after surgery typically. During these visits your DBS settings may be gradually increased and your subthalamic nucleus (STN) medication may be reduced.
