Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic
The Stanford Psychiatry Clinic provides comprehensive outpatient behavioral health and psychiatric care for adults, addressing a wide range of disorders. Consultation and ongoing treatment is provided by faculty physicians and psychologists, as well as post-doctoral psychology fellows and psychiatry residents, nurse practitioners, and social workers. The clinic also provides treatment for specialized populations including seniors, women, and patients with a co-existing medical disorder.

Accessing Care
The Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic offers non-urgent mental health consultation for the following:
1. Patients who are in treatment with a Stanford Primary Care Physician or SHC specialist
- Please ask your SHC provider to submit a formal referral to psychiatry.
- Some of the insurances we are in network with are:
- Stanford Health Care Alliance (SHCA)
- Stanford Medicare Advantage
- Medicare Part A & B
- Cisco Employees with the following insurances: SHC Alliance, Life Connections, ConnectCare CA, Cigna, or United Healthcare
- Blue Cross
- Aetna
- Tricare
2. Stanford faculty, staff, and their dependents and Stanford students
- You may self-refer *note Kaiser member exception below.
- Stanford Students only please register here
3. Patients who are actively in treatment with a community psychiatrist requesting a second opinion.
- Please fax a referral with a summary of treatment to our referral fax center 650-320-9443.
- Our new patient coordinators will reach out to you once your referral has been processed.
Due to the high demand for mental health care, we are not able to provide same day appointments or assistance to walk-in patients seeking to establish care. Please call 650-498-9111 to speak with a representative if you meet the above access to care criteria.
If you reside in California and are looking for outpatient treatment in our Inspire Clinic, Addiction Medicine Dual Diagnosis Clinic, TMS clinic, CBT-I, Diversity and Cultural Mental Health, Thrive, SMHART, centerspace, or our La Clinica Latina you may self-refer by calling 650-498-9111 opt 2.
We are not able to provide same day services or urgent assistance to walk-in patients. For urgent or life-threatening mental health needs, please call 911 or visit your nearest hospital emergency department. For immediate crisis intervention, text 741741 to reach the Crisis Text Line, or dial the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).

Clinical Trials
Clinical trials are research studies that evaluate a new medical approach, device, drug, or other treatment. As a Stanford Health Care patient, you may have access to the latest, advanced clinical trials.
Open trials refer to studies currently accepting participants. Closed trials are not currently enrolling, but may open in the future.
