Chalazion and Stye Causes
A stye develops for one of three possible reasons:
- Eyelash root (follicle) becomes infected
- Oil (meibomian) gland becomes plugged and infected
- Another eyelid condition called blepharitis causes inflammation
A chalazion forms to wall-off inflammation, in response to an unhealed stye that forms from a blocked gland
