What Is a Macular Hole?
Sometimes a small break can develop in the back of your eye on your macula. The macula sits in the middle of the light-sensitive retina and is responsible for the center of your field of vision and focusing on fine details like the words in a book.
While a macular hole can cause vision problems, we have the care you need to find relief.
Stanford Macular Hole Expertise
We offer all the care you need to stop a macular hole from causing further harm. We offer:
- Top Doctors: Our surgeons have additional fellowship training in retinal and vitreous care. They have the skills and insight to determine when you need treatment and when you do not. We also have a large enough staff to provide same-day surgery when needed.
- Coordinated Care: In addition to surgeons, our program is staffed by optometrists who can write revised prescriptions for glasses or contacts, as well as by cataract specialists. (Macular hole surgery leaves you more susceptible to the progression of cataracts—learn more about cataracts.)
- Dedicated facilities: Unlike many care providers, we only use our operating rooms for eye surgeries. That means specially trained staff and specialized equipment. The operating rooms are in the same building as our clinics and offices, so we can immediately handle urgent cases.
