Excessive Sweating
What Is Excessive Sweating?
Sweating is a natural process to cool your body when it gets too hot. It's also normal to sweat when you feel nervous, embarrassed, angry or afraid.
But some people sweat excessively, at unpredictable and inexplicable times — a medical condition called hyperhidrosis. While the problem is usually encountered for the first time as a child or teen, it can begin at any age — and in any climate.
The uncontrollable sweating can cause embarrassment and discomfort — and, at times, indicate a more serious medical condition. But it's treatable, so you can stop using extra clothing to hide stains and hesitating to raise your arms.
