Complications - Dilation and Stenting
Complications Associated with Dilation and Stenting
As with any procedure, it's possible for complications to happen. However, this is uncommon. Through our novel research on esophageal stent complications, our experts take extra precautions to keep you safe and healthy before, during and after your procedure.
Possible complications associated with dilation and stenting include:
- Painful swallowing (dysphagia)
- Swelling and irritation in the area between your lungs (mediastinitis)
- Bleeding
- Inhaling your stomach contents (aspiration)
- Soreness and pain in your throat
- Swelling in the middle of your chest (pericarditis)
- Unintentional puncture (perforation) or tearing in the lining of your esophagus
