Complications - Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy
Complications Associated with Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy
As with any procedure, it's possible for complications to happen. However, this is uncommon. As one of the first centers in the country involved in the POEM procedure, we are among the most experienced in delivering this treatment. This fact, coupled with our expertise in minimally invasive surgery, helps reduce your risk for complications.
Possible complications associated with the POEM procedure include:
- Unintentional puncture (perforation) or tearing in the lining of your esophagus
- Narrowing of the esophagus (esophageal stricture)
