Spider Veins
What Are Spider Veins and Telangiectasia?
Spider veins are a less severe type of telangiectasia — broken blood vessels that look like thin branches or a spider web section. Starburst blemishes are another type.
These broken veins are a common vascular lesion — abnormal blood vessels near the skin's surface that are usually harmless but can make you feel self-conscious.
Other vascular lesions include:
Port wine stains
Port wine stains, or nevus flammeus, are birthmarks that change color and usually grow as you age — taking on the appearance of spilled red wine in adulthood.
Hemangiomas
Hemangiomas are birthmarks that grow rapidly from birth but then frequently — but not always — disappear over time. They are sometimes called strawberry or infantile hemangiomas.
Angioma
Angiomas are benign (noncancerous) growths made up of tiny blood vessels. They usually show up after age 30, with cherry angiomas and spider angiomas the main types.
