Spider Vein and Vascular Lesion Symptoms
Spider Vein and Other Vascular Lesion Symptoms
Symptoms of vascular lesions depend on which type of blood vessel abnormality you have:
Spider vein symptoms
Spider veins are:
- Often found on the legs, ankles or face
- Like branches or a spider web, with short, jagged lines
- Usually red or blue (though similar vein conditions are sometimes pink or purple)
- Able to cover either small or large areas of skin
Spider veins usually aren't tied to medical problems but can cause achy legs from prolonged standing and may indicate a more serious vein disease.
Port wine stain symptoms
Port wine stains are distinguished by several characteristics:
- Look pink at birth
- Tend to darken to reddish-purple or dark red later in childhood
- Found anywhere on the body, but usually on the face, neck, scalp, arms or legs
- Size varies, but often grow after birth
- Start out smooth and flat but may thicken and take on pebbly feel
Port wine stains are generally harmless, but those near the eyes or forehead need closer monitoring.
Strawberry hemangioma symptoms
Hemangiomas come in many sizes and are defined by:
- Color: Red or purple
- Location: Usually on the face, scalp or back of neck
- Timing: Appear up to the first few months of life
- Changes: Start out flat, then grow and become raised
Angioma symptoms
Cherry angiomas are marked by their:
- Bright, cherry-red color
- Width — anywhere from a pinhead to a quarter of an inch
- Location — usually on the trunk
- Smoothness
