Glaucoma Symptoms
Glaucoma Symptoms
Glaucoma does not usually cause symptoms in its earliest stages. As it progresses, it can cause small blank or fuzzy spots in your vision, but you may not notice these until they grow. If the disease worsens and all the nerve fibers die, blindness sets in and cannot currently be reversed. That is why early detection and treatment is key.
Less commonly, a type of glaucoma called acute angle closure causes a medical emergency which requires immediate attention. There are typically no warning signs before symptoms of these acute attacks set in:
- Suddenly blurry vision
- Severe eye pain
- Headache
- Feeling sick to your stomach (nausea)
- Vomiting
- Seeing rainbow-colored rings or halos around lights
Please keep in mind that other medical conditions and eye problems can cause similar symptoms. Our doctors will provide an accurate and timely diagnosis.
Clinical Trials
Clinical trials are research studies that evaluate a new medical approach, device, drug, or other treatment. As a Stanford Health Care patient, you may have access to the latest, advanced clinical trials.
Open trials refer to studies currently accepting participants. Closed trials are not currently enrolling, but may open in the future.
