Macular Degeneration Diagnosis
Macular Degeneration Diagnosis
Macular degeneration is diagnosed during a comprehensive eye exam. We use several tools to make our evaluation:
- Dilation: Your doctor dilates your eyes, then examines them with a special scope called an ophthalmoscope.
- Fluorescein angiography: Injecting dye and then taking photographs allows us to look for leaking blood vessels and new blood vessel growth.
- OCT (optical coherence tomography) angiography: A newer method of analyzing the retina for signs of macular degeneration with higher resolution and more precision than ever before.
It is important to get macular degeneration diagnosed as soon as possible and then monitor it closely. Timely and appropriate intervention can help preserve vision.
