Cancers and Conditions Treated with Chemotherapy
Different types of cancers and conditions may be be treated with chemotherapy, including:
Anal cancer
A rare type of cancer that starts in the anus, the opening at the end of the rectum.
Bone cancer
An abnormal growth of cells within a bone that may be cancerous or benign.
Breast cancer
A disease in which malignant (cancer) cells form in the tissues of the breast.
Cervical cancer
Cancer that begins in the cervix; typically detected by biopsy after a suspicious Pap smear or pelvic exam.
Cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct)
A a rare, malignant tumor of the bile duct.
Colon cancer (colorectal cancer)
A disease that is indicated by malignant cells in the colon or rectum.
Esophageal cancer
A disease in which cancerous cells form in the tissues of the esophagus.
Gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD)
A group of pregnancy-related tumors that appear when cells in the womb grow out of control and become cancerous.
Hodgkin's lymphoma
A rare type of lymphatic system cancer which causes some lymphatic cells to abnormally reproduce, eventually creating tumors and making the body less able to fight infection.
Hypopharyngeal and cervical esophagus cancers
Conditions in which malignant cells form in the tissues of the surrounding structures of the larynx.
Kidney (renal) cancer
A type of cancer that begins in the kidneys, located on the left and right of the backbone.
Liver cancer
A type of cancer that starts in the cells of the liver. Viral hepatitis and liver damage from alcohol or fatty liver are risk factors for liver cancer.
Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma
A type of cancer of the lymphatic system which can begin in almost any part of the body, causing cells to abnormally reproduce and tumors to eventually grow.
Ovarian and fallopian cancer
Ovarian and fallopian cancers have similar cell types and often respond to the same treatments.
Pancreatic cancer
Cancers that begin in the pancreas.
Paranasal sinus cancer
A type of malignant cancer in the tissues of the paranasal sinuses or nasal cavity.
Salivary glands cancer
Cancer found in the tissues of the salivary glands.
Squamous cell carcinoma
Squamous cell carcinoma is the second most common type of skin cancer due to extensive sun exposure, occurring most often in fair-skinned and elderly people.
Uterine cancer
Cancer that begins in the layer of cells that form the lining of the uterus, called the endometrium.
Vaginal cancer
A rare cancer in which malignant cells are found in the tissues of the vagina.
Vulvar cancer
Vulvar cancer is a malignancy that can occur on any part of the external organs, but most often affects the labia majora or labia minora.
