Treatments for Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE)
Treatments for Eosinophilic Esophagitis?
Using a team approach, esophagus experts, immunologists and our dedicated Digestive Health Center dieticians work together to develop a personalized treatment plan. If test results show you have GERD in addition to EoE, your treatment may first focus on addressing your GERD.
Treatments for EoE include:
- Dilation and stenting: A dilation procedure stretches narrowed esophagus tissue and allows us to implant a special device (stent) to help keep it open. Learn more about dilation and stenting for esophagus disease.
- Medical nutrition therapy: Our nutritionists specialize in helping you avoid trigger foods as well as identifying foods you like to eat that can reduce your symptoms. Learn more about GI Nutrition Services.
- Proton pump inhibitor: Taking medication to control the amount of acid your stomach produces can control eosinophil levels in your esophagus.
- Steroids: Controlling inflammation with the help of special medications you take by mouth (oral steroid).
- Supplemental nutrition: If you are not able to get adequate nutrition from food taken by mouth, supplemental nutrition can help meet your body's needs. Supplemental nutrition comes in many forms including a feeding tube and total parenteral nutrition.
