How Do We Diagnose NASH?
One of the biggest challenges with NASH is that people often experience no symptoms until they reach advanced stages of the disease. Our expertise helps us catch NASH as early as possible.
Diagnosing NASH includes:
- A physical exam: We start with a comprehensive physical exam where we explore your risks for NASH and look for early symptoms, such as retaining fluid.
- Blood test: A simple blood test can tell us a lot about the health of your liver, such as whether you have inflammation, or if another medical condition is causing your symptoms. If your results are abnormal, you need an imaging test to help confirm your diagnosis. Learn more about liver disease testing.
- Imaging: We use advanced imaging techniques, such as the FibroScan® system, to accurately measure the levels of fat and damage in your liver. This eliminates the need for a painful and potentially risky liver biopsy. We are one of the programs in the Bay Area where this technology is available.
