Heart Failure Treatment at Stanford Health Care

Our cardiologists are experts at managing heart failure. Our deep understanding of the treatment options available allows us to tailor a treatment plan that meets your needs.

In some cases, we can manage heart failure through lifestyle changes, such as dietary restrictions and weight loss. For other patients, we may prescribe certain medications. In other cases, patients may require medical or surgical procedures.

Our cardiac surgeons have extensive experience in performing mechanical circulatory support (MCS) procedures for people who need short-term and long-term heart support. They have invented minimally invasive approaches and helped develop the newest, most advanced MCS devices.

Your doctor will review all of your treatment options with you, which may include medication and lifestyle changes to manage your condition, electrophysiology procedures to correct irregular heartbeats and other specialized treatment options.

Your Heart Failure Treatment Plan

We will determine your specific treatment for heart failure based on your:

  • Age, overall health and medical history
  • Disease progression
  • Tolerance for specific medications, procedures or therapies
  • Expectations for the course of the disease
  • Opinion or preference
  • The reason for heart failure

  • Controlling risk factors
  • Heart transplant
