Controlling Risk Ractors of Heart Disease
Controlling Risk Factors
Preventative measures, like controlling your heart attack risk factors, can be an effective way to reduce the likelihood of developing heart failure or prevent heart failure from getting worse.
You can:
- Lose weight, if overweight
- Restrict salt and fat with things like a low sodium diet
- Quit smoking
- Abstain from alcohol
- Get enough rest
- Control your blood sugar, if you are diabetic

Clinical Trials
Clinical trials are research studies that evaluate a new medical approach, device, drug, or other treatment. As a Stanford Health Care patient, you may have access to the latest, advanced clinical trials.
Open trials refer to studies currently accepting participants. Closed trials are not currently enrolling, but may open in the future.
